The Distinctive Life
CREATE AVISUALLY STIMULATING HOME OFFICE From accent walls to impressive wall art, your home office should inspire you to do your best work. Among designer Marika Meyer’s favorite tips, which she shared with Martha Stewart Living readers, is that the modern home office should be uplifting and that homeowners should “decorate the space with lots of fabulous patterns and compelling colors to stay energized when they work from home.”
Blima Ehrentreu, of the Designers Group, agrees that “spending your time in a visually stimulating space” is one of the best ways to stay motivated, particularly when faced with complicated projects and/or looming deadlines, according to the magazine. If your office area is open, but you want to create the sense of having a well-defined space, a new paint color or wall covering might be your
best answer. Apply paint in slightly darker shades than the walls in the surrounding areas, or introduce a new texture. As the editors at Southern Living explain: “A textured but neutral wallpaper, such as burlap or grass cloth, is also a great choice to give the office its own distinct look.” Even hanging a much- loved work of art can infuse your office with a new energy that will help you thrive.
